Olympic weightlifting's popularity amongst CrossFitters has been growing very rapidly. OlyLifting (as we like to call it) is a big part of CrossFit training, as it improves an athlete's strength, speed, power and flexibility. Some of the main lifts used in weightlifting are the deadlift, front and back squat, the push press, the push and split jerk, the power snatch and clean and the snatch and the clean. Those lifts are performed with a barbell that can be loaded with weight plates. Weightlifting exercises are part of almost every CrossFit WOD and challenge your body in every imaginable way. CrossFitters use the term 'weightlifting' not only to refer to the sport of weightlifting, but also to refer to various exercises executed with load. This includes powerlifting exercises like the bench press or strongman exercises like the farmers carry.
